Tijs was born in Wageningen/Netherlands and moved to Nijmegen for his studies, where he obtained his bachelor and his master’s in Molecular Chemistry. During his studies he always was motivated to use chemistry for a sustainable future. With this as a motivation, he focused on the polymer chemistry in a novel air-cooling system by Mecaphor BV (at Radboud University Nijmegen), as well as an electrochemical hydrogen compressor by HyET Hydrogen (at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory).
“I am thankful to be able to continue to incorporate chemistry in green applications under the supervision of Prof. David Mecerreyes at POLYMAT.”, Tijs say. The main objective of his project will be to synthesize new, naturally inspired redox polymers. “I like POLYSTORAGE because I can continue to work in the field of polymer chemistry, while contributing to the development of highly necessary sustainable applications.”, he continues. Besides chemistry he plays soccer, does mountainbiking and likes to make music.
