Research topic: Synthesis of naturally inspired redox polymers

I am Tijs Lap, Dutch and 26 years old. I was born in Wageningen and moved to Nijmegen for my studies, where I obtained my bachelor and my master’s in Molecular Chemistry. During my studies I always was motivated to use chemistry for a sustainable future. With this as a motivation, I focused on the polymer chemistry in (I) a novel air-cooling system by Mecaphor BV (at Radboud University Nijmegen), and (II) an electrochemical hydrogen compressor by HyET Hydrogen (at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory).

I am thankful to be able to continue to incorporate chemistry in green applications under the supervision of Prof. David Mecerreyes at POLYMAT. The main objective of my project will be to synthesize new, naturally inspired redox polymers. First, monomers and polymerization methods will be selected, followed by electrochemical characterization and integration of selected redox polymers in polymer redox flow batteries or as redox active binders.

I like POLYSTORAGE because I can continue to work in the field of polymer chemistry, while contributing to the development of highly necessary sustainable applications.

Besides chemistry I play soccer, do mountainbiking and like to make music.
