About

Kristina Edström is professor at Uppsala University, Sweden and leader of the Ångström Advanced Battery Centre at Uppsala University.

She studied chemistry at Uppsala University and earned her doctoral degree in 1990 on solid electrolytes including beta-alumina. She was appointed as research assistant at Uppsala University in 1995 working on the design of materials with special properties. In 2005 she was promoted to Professor at Uppsala University. Alongside her research, she is involved with mentoring and teaching early career researchers. From 2016 to 2021 she is Director of SwedNess, a graduate programme in neutron scattering. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Kristina Edström received several awards and honours including the Thuréus Prize, Uppsala University Student in Science and Engineering Gold Medal, Norwegian University of Science and Technology Honorary Doctorate, KTH Great Prize, Uppsala University Rudbeck Medal, the Wallenberg Scholar and the Gold Medal of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.

Kristina Edström works on batteries and novel electrode materials. Her recent work has considered self-repairing batteries using polymers which can form weak hydrogen bonds with other polymer chains or the surfaces of electrodes. She is leading a European Commission project, the EU Large-Scale Research Initiative BATTERY 2030+, that is developing next generation energy storage materials. Kristina Edström currently supervises >20 PhD students at Uppsala University, and has published more than 280 publications (H-index 56 SCOPUS 11/2020)).
