Janne Ruokolainen is professor at Aalto University Department of Applied Physics and director of the nanomicroscopy center at Aalto University.

He conducted his PhD studies at Helsinki University of Technology under supervision of Prof. Olli Ikkala (1995-2000) and did postdoctoral training in University of California at Santa Barbara, USA with Prof. Edward J. Kramer and Prof. Glenn H. Fredrickson (2000-2002). After the postdoc period he worked in the Finnish Academy Research Fellow position at Helsinki University of Technology (2002 – 2007). In 2007 he was appointed as a full professor at Helsinki University of Technology (Aalto University since January 2010) at Department of Applied Physics.

His research interests are devoted to polymer self-assembly and microscopy since 1995.

Janne Ruokolainen has authored >240 articles (5 in Science or Nature group journals) with over 9,500 citations (H -index of 54 SCOPUS 06/2020). Prof. Ruokolainen is one of the most prolific authors worldwide for hierarchical self-assembly.
