Research topic: Development of redox-active colloids/suspensions for semi-solid RFBs

I am Ousmane Camara, born in Guinea, raised in Italy. I hold a master’s degree in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology from Polytechnic University of Milan. I carried out my master thesis at Holst Centre, Eindhoven. During this project I worked on the synthesis and characterization of all-solid-state Li-ion batteries.
In September 2020 I joined POLYMAT in San Sebastián, Spain, where I will be based for the next 18 months before moving over to Madrid to finish the project at IMDEA Energy. The main objective of my PhD is the development of redox active colloids/suspensions for semi-solid redox flow batteries. This project will include the synthesis of redox-active polymer nanoparticles, their electrochemical characterization, the preparation of conductive suspensions and the investigation of semi-solid redox flow batteries using redox active materials with different redox potentials.
While working on my master thesis, I developed a strong interest for electrochemical energy storages. POLYSTORAGE aim to develop environmentally friendly and safer battery technologies and being part of this project make me very proud. I am very excited to work under the supervision of Prof. David Mecerreyes and Dr. Rebeca Marcilla, I am sure I can learn a lot from them.
When not in the lab, you can find me on the football pitch scoring the best goals.
