About

Ulrich S. Schubert is full professor, head of the Laboratory of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry (IOMC), and director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry Jena (CEEC Jena) at the Friedrich Schiller University (FSU), Germany.

Ulrich S. Schubert conducted his PhD studies in chemistry at the Universities of Bayreuth (Germany) and South Florida (USA). After a postdoctoral training with J.-M. Lehn at the University of Strasbourg (France), he moved to the TU Munich (Germany) and obtained his Habilitation in 1999. After professorial positions in Munich (Germany, 1999–2000) and TU Eindhoven (the Netherlands, 2000–2007), he joined the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany). He received numerous awards, e.g. a VICI award of the Netherland Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and is fellow of the ACS Division of Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Division (USA), the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, UK) and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI, USA). Ulrich S. Schubert is elected member of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and external scientific member of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPI for Colloid & Interfaces, Golm).

His main research activities in the area of polymers and energy deal with redox-active polymeric materials as active materials for polymer-based batteries. Ulrich S. Schubert is founder and director of the Jena Center for Soft Matter (JCSM) and the Center for Energy and Environmental Chemistry Jena (CEEC Jena). Besides Ulrich S. Schubert’s academic research activities (>1’100 articles with >50’000 citations, H-index 105 SCOPUS 06/2020)), he holds >30 patent applications and has initiated four spin-off companies.
